December Letter Requesting Donations

Dear Library Friend,

Many of us choose to spread light in this darkest month of the year by donating to charities. I want to ask you to consider making a gift to The Friends of the Crystal Falls District Community Library. (It’s a mouthful, so we’ll refer to it as “The Friends.”) Before I donate, I like to know how hard my money will work. Does my contribution create positive results for the community, or is it frittered away in fundraising efforts?

The Friends have been excellent stewards of your gifts. Since October 14, 2021 when we came into existence, we have used 90% of the monies spent on behalf of the library. The other 10% has paid for required government filing fees, developing our logo (isn’t it wonderful?) and to solicit and thank donors.

How have we spent that 90.0%? Here’s a partial list of how we have assisted the library: ...

• Our largest expense has been to sponsor the Summer Reading Programs (2022-2025) by picking up the vast majority of library expenses not covered by grants.

• This year, we helped equip and update the library by purchasing chairs and lamps for reading areas and also buying an organizing table for craft supplies.

• We have provided books and snacks for a variety of Book Clubs and Story Hours.

• We also sponsored the Winter Reading Program (2023) and will again this winter.

• We helped the library purchase books for the Halloween Book Bash giveaway (2022-2024).

• We reimbursed the library for its sponsorship of the (2022-2024) U.P Notable Books Club Events.

• We’ve shared costs for Crystal Christmas movies at the Crystal Theater (2023-2024).

• This year, we started reimbursing the Library for advertising events on WIKB (2024).

• And much, much more.

I think we’ve done a fine job with the money we’ve had, and we’d do a “finer” job if we had more funds. Of course, it’s not all about money. Many of you have assisted with the summer program, the annual used book sale, the Halloween Book Bash, Author Palooza in December, and choosing and wrapping books for the February “Blind Date with a Book” event. We thank you for all your past and future efforts.

To make a donation, you can mail your check made out to “Friends CFDCL” to PO Box 294, Crystal Falls, MI 49920-0294 or drop it off at the Library. If you prefer to use a credit card, debit card or PayPal, go to our website (www.friends-cfdcl.org), choose the “Support” button and on that page click on the Donate icon and follow the directions. We recognize all donations on our website, so let us know if you want to be “Anonymous.”

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jim Jackson
