We came into existence on October 14, 2021 when the State of Michigan approved our Articles of Incorporation and the Internal Revenue Service assigned us an Employer Identifcation Number. On January 26, 2022, the Internal Revenue Service approved The Friends as a public charity exempt under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3), meaning donations made to The Friends are tax-deductible. So far, the Friends have donated over $40,000 to and for the library.

The Friends donated a new outdoor book drop box to the Crystal Falls District Community Library. The newly installed drop box, located in the alley south of the library, provides a convenient, accessible, weather-resistant location for library patrons to return their library books.
“We are proud to dedicate this new outdoor book drop to the memory of Bob Surface, a lifelong Crystal Falls resident, whose love of learning and reading, and career as a mailman, make this the perfect way to honor him.” said Maureen Elson, President FCFDCL. “This new outdoor book drop reflects our commitment to enhancing and supporting the work of the library and making services more convenient and accessible for the community.”

The Friends held a dedication ceremony on July 30th with members of the Friends, Library Board, Library staff, and family of Bob Surface in attendance.
